Prof. Rosita O. Igwe

Prof. Rosita O. Igwe is a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction (Theory) in the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Akoka. She holds a PhD in Curriculum Studies (Curriculum Theory) from the University of Lagos (1994) and currently the Professorial chair in the Department of Arts Education of the University (2018-Date). Prof. lgwe is a seasoned lecturer who has garnered over thirty (30) years in the field, teaching and researching, and has successfully supervised twelve (12) PhD graduate theses, fifty-two (52) masters’ dissertations and over three hundred and fifty (350) undergraduate projects. She has authored and co-authored over seventy (70) books and articles in both national and international journals. Her research interests are on teachers’ improvement, women empowerment, school and _ education improvement, among others, and her current research is on Salvaging Nigerian Education from Alienation: The Need for Interdependence and Collaboration in Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century.
 
Prof. R.O. Igwe is a member of various committees at the Departmental, Faculty, Postgraduate, and University levels. She has been an elected member of the University of Lagos senate (2008-2013) before becoming a substantive member (2018-Date). Prof. Igwe has been the Head of Unit for Curriculum and Social Sciences Unit; Chairperson, Faculty of Education Environmental Sanitation and Beautification Committee from 2014 till date; Coordinator, Departmental Finance and Maintenance Committee from 2014 till date; board member of the School of Post-Graduate Studies (SPGS), as well as its Academic Programmes Committee (APC) from 2011-date; member, University of Lagos Quality Assurance Committee, Chairman, Faculty as well as Departmental Quality Assurance Committee, among others.
 
Prof. Rosita Igwe is visible member of various Curriculum Organisations, nationally and internationally, prominent among them are the International Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies (IAACS), National Association of Curriculum Theorists (NACT), Curriculum Organisation of Nigeria (CON) and Professional Association of Curriculum Theorists and Practitioners in Nigeria (PACTPiN) where she is the Chairperson, among others. She has been involved in various curriculum development activities at the micro and macro levels of the polity, and has been a visiting Professor at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
 
Prof. Igwe has been a recipient of various awards which signified her commitment to her duties. Some of the awards include: Woman of the Year 2003 Award by the American Bibliographical Institute, USA; Best Lecturer Award of Excellence and Distinction in Service Delivery by Arts & Social Sciences Education and Science and Technology Education Masters (M.Ed.) Students 2016/2017 Academic Session; Departmental Award of Recognition for Effectively Supervising the Greatest Number of Ph.D. in Social Sciences Education Unit. 2013-2017; Departmental Award of Recognition for Immense Contribution as Coordinator to the Social Sciences Education Unit; Award of Honour as the Outstanding General Course Lecturer by the University of Lagos Sandwich Students’ Association, 2017, etc.
 
Outside her official duties in the university, Prof. Rosita Igwe has shown commitment towards lifting people up. Her charitable and humanitarian services speak volume, especially through her active participation, goodwill, donations and provision of various social and ecclesial facilities and equipment in her church and community. In fact, she has established a humanitarian culture which is being looked upon with hope every December by its beneficiaries – the widows, the anawim and less privileged. This she does for the sake of humanity to ensure the upliftment of the human standard, the regeneration and recreation of a better curriculum for a better world in her immediate environment and the world at large. As a key promoter of this project, “Most Intelligent Student in Nigeria’; she provides educational guidance and supports while ensuring we maintain internationally acceptable standards required within the school and curriculum.
